BELROSE TAKES OUT SENIOR FOURS
30 April 2019
The weather was fine again this today for the final day of the District Fours. The semi-finals of the Senior event had been played the previous afternoon, with the final set to be played at the same time as the final of the Open Fours (the semi’s of which were played this morning).
In the Senior Fours final, it was a very even match early in the game between a Belrose team skilled by Billie Maas, and a St Ives team skipped by Rhonwen Martin, but by the halfway mark the Belrose team had opened up a 7-shot lead. Then the St Ives team began to conquer the flukey wind, and whittled down the margin to be only 2 behind with two ends to play. Two shots to Belrose gave them a 4-shot lead going into the last end. When the skips went to play their last bowls, St Ives was already holding 4 to force an extra end; but it was not to be … the Belrose skip got her bowls into the circle of St Ives shots cutting them back to one, for Belrose to claim the match 18-15.
