2021 Mixed Pairs

In an excellent day of bowling at Mona Vale, Midori Matsuoka (Neutral Bay) and Kenta Treacher (North Sydney) defeated David Blackwell (Turramurra) and Elizabeth Blackwell (Neutral Bay) 12-9 to take out the first District championship of 2021. It was the first time Midori has won this event; Kenta previously won in 2016, partnered by Emma Brown. Our North Shore champions then went up against the Manly-Warringah champions, Linda & Terry Warder of Harbord. It was a very close-fought game in unusually cool and often damp conditions. After having been 7-7 after 10 ends, and 8-8 after 12 ends, the North Shore pair needed two shots on the last end to book a spot in this year’s State Championships at South Tamworth in August. Both Midori and Kenta played the end superbly and got the shots they needed for the match, winning 12-11.
The previous Sunday, our seven Section winners battled the heat as well as each other at St Ives. Despite the weather, the standard of bowling was excellent and all games went down to the wire.
A record 21 teams had entered in the 2021 event.

2020
Congratulations to Anne and Steve Coleman (North Sydney) who won the Mixed Pairs Championship, then went on to take out the Region 15 title for the second time in three years. In the District final, the Colemans took on Midori Matsuoka (Neutral Bay) and North Sydney club-mate Kenta Treacher. At one set apiece, the game went to a tie-breaker with Anne and Steve claiming victory.
The Region 15 Play-Off against Brian and Chris Gordon (Harbord) was an excellent match, with great bowls from all four competitors and the advantage switching frequently each end. However, the Colemans carried off the win in straight sets.
2019
In the Final of the Mixed Pairs 2019, Warwick Bridge and Sue Hamilton (Turramurra) took on last year’s champions Anne and Steve Coleman (North Sydney), with Warwick and Sue winning 8-0, 1-6, 1-0. The Turramurra team then played the Manly-Warringah champions and emerged as the Region 15 Mixed Pairs Champions.

2018
The 2018 Mixed Pairs Champions are Anne and Steve Coleman (North Sydney), who defeated Denise Owen (Mosman) and Sam Owen (North Sydney) in a tie-breaker to a very high-quality match, 5-3, 1-6, 2-0.
In the semi-final matches, Anne and Steve had a straight-sets win over Kay King (Belrose) and Wayne (“Moose”) Morris (Forestville RSL) while Denise and Sam defeated Eve and Matthew Blackburn (Belrose) in a tie-breaker.
2017
The 2017 winners of the Mixed Pairs at District level were Andrew Thornley and Susan Allen (both of Forestville RSL), who defeated the Belrose pair of Michelle and John Treadwell in an exciting finish to their match.
2016
The 2016 Mixed Pairs Champions Kenta Treacher (skip) and Emma Brown (both of North Sydney) went on to also win the Region 15 Play-Off against Susan Laidlaw and Mark Alexander (Harbord).
2015
The inaugural State Mixed Pairs was run in 2015, with the Neutral Bay team of John Ziller and Lynne Thompson prevailing over the rest of the field to advance to the State Play-Offs.
North Shore District Women's Bowling Association
