President Sue congratulates 2021 Open Pairs champions Ngoc & Louise, along with runners-up Elizabeth & Midori

After days of very wet weather, the sun made an occasional appearance today for the final of our Open Pairs between Elizabeth Blackwell & Midori Matsuoka (Neutral Bay) and Ngoc Hau & Louise Amos (Killara). Ngoc and Louise were the defending champions, but the two teams were trading shot for shot until Louise’s team scored a 6 on the 10th end, to get out to an 11-6 lead. In response, Elizabeth and Louise picked up 7 shots in the following three ends, to get their noses in front 13-11. Undeterred, Ngoc and Louise scored three shots on the following end to regain the lead by the slimmest of margins, then a single to their opponents saw the score level 14-14 with three ends to play. Successive singles saw Killara in front by two going into the last end. With Neutral Bay only able to manage a single shot, Killara claimed back-to back titles, 16-15.

Senior Pairs Champions 2021

Congratulations to Di McBryde and Vicki Bartrop (St Ives) on being our Senior Pairs champions for 2021, defeating Brenda Walker and Gill Barton (Neutral Bay) today 19-9. All players persevered through wet weather on the first day at Mosman BC, and again at Belrose today. It was back-to-back wins for Diane, having won last year with Shizuko Hashimoto (sub Jan Woodcock). It also makes 3-in-a-row Senior Pairs wins for St Ives, with Vicki having previously won in 2019 with Sue Byrne as her Lead.
