The weather was fine for the final day of the District Fours. The semi-finals of the Open Fours were played in the morning, with the Killara team of Susie Meares (sub for Anne Rands), Julie Dunn, Ngoc Hau and Louise Amos defeating Gwen Butters, Louise Cook, Diane Kent and Eleanor Swain of Belrose. In the other match the Belrose team of Lorraine Hazzard, Kay King, Michelle Treadwell and Benita Andrews defeated Taylor de Greenlaw, Bev Piper, Elaine Seidler and Jess de Greenlaw (Neutral Bay). With the semi-finals of the Senior Fours event having been played the previous afternoon, both finals took place this afternoon. In the Open Fours, the Belrose team staked their claim to the title with a score of 6 on the first end, and had extended their lead to 18-4 by the halfway mark. The Killara ladies fought hard, but couldn’t stop the momentum of the Belrose team who won the match 27-13.

Taylor and Jess de Greenlaw

It was an historic day at Mosman today, when 12-year old Taylor de Greenlaw took to the green in one of the semi-finals of the Open Fours, in a Neutral Bay team skipped by her mother, Jess. Taylor is already well-known around the District for her bowling skills, and also for her friendly disposition and fine sportsmanship. The scheduling of some of our District Championship events at the weekends and in school holidays is enabling Taylor to play more championship bowls. She has also had success this year in junior events at Zone level. Let’s hope we can get some more juniors involved!
