The “Finals day” of the 2019 Major-Minor Pairs was an all-Belrose affair. Twenty teams from across North Shore and Manly-Warringah had each played six 11-end matches over previous Saturdays … six of the teams entered were from Belrose WBC … and four of those emerged from the qualifying rounds as the “Top 4” on wins + shots aggregate to compete in the “Finals day”. The finals were played this year as a round-robin to decide the winners. Dale Nuttall and Patricia Tan secured convincing victories in all three games, to be the 2019 Major-Minor Pairs winners. Dale started playing bowls only weeks before last year’s Major-Minor event and is a promising player; however, as a full-time worker Dale gets limited opportunity to play competitively, so it was great to see her competing, and winning, this year. In the battle for the runners-up spot, with one win apiece going into the final round Kaye Alderton & Kay King took on Karen Lees & Michelle Treadwell. After 4 ends in the 9-end game Karen & Michelle were up 5-1; however, Kaye & Kay won the next 4, to lead 8-5 going into the final end. Although Michelle drew shot it was only a single, so the “Special Ks” hung on for the win, leaving Karen and Michelle in 3rd place, with Vanessa and Janet in 4th. The event, which aims to give less-experienced players match experience in partnership with a more-experienced player, is now a regular fixture on the Districts’ bowling calendar.
