DISTRICT FOURS CHAMPIONS
13 November 2023

The District (State) Women’s Fours and Senior Women’s Fours were held over the weekend at Belrose BC, along with the Zone 9 (State) Men’s Fours.
In the Women’s Fours, the Neutral Bay team of Elaine Seidler, Jenny Palmer, Kate Wingrove and Jenny Hepburn put in a strong performance to take the title for the fourth year in a row. In the morning semi-final, Jenny’s team had a strong win over the Turramurra team skipped by Elizabeth Blackwell. In the other semi, the Belrose team of Suzi Fischer, Dale Nuttall, Midori Matsuoka and Patricia Tan had a decisive win over the Lindfield Rollers team skipped by Ngoc Hau. The final promised to be a great contest; however the defending champions had all the answers for whatever Belrose threw at them, powering their way to a 17-3 lead at the half-way mark. Belrose managed to claw back the margin in the second half of the game but had left their run too late, with the final score 22-15.
In the Senior Women’s Fours, the Belrose team of Jan Keller, Margaret Murphy, Julie Baker and Billie Maas overcame the Neutral Bay team of Brenda Cook, Lea Eastaugh, Brenda Walker and Trish Wilson 18 – 11. The Belrose team made the better start, winning the first four ends for a score of 8-0. Then Neutral Bay began their fight-back and after 12 ends were only two shots behind, 11-9. However, from that point on, Belrose restricted Neutral Bay to a pair of singles while they steadily took charge of the scoreboard to take the win 18-11.
In the Zone 9 Men’s Fours, the final was an all-Belrose affair, with Michael Rawlings, Rohan Dennis, Matthew Blackburn and Steve Rawlings defeating Steve Lowe, Ethan Scott-Branagan, James Brown and John Campton.
