Region 15 Grade 3 winners – Lindfield/Killara

With fine weather and watched by a great crowd of supporters on 18 May, the Pennant winners from North Shore and Manly-Warringah Districts played off in the hope of booking a spot in the State finals. Some sides got off to a good start and then had to fend off a strong comeback from the opponents. Despite that, Pittwater Memorial looked never in doubt to take out the Grade 4 contest against St Ives 45-31, and the combined Lindfield-Killara side dominated Harbord’s Grade 3’s, winning 56-29. Although Seaforth looked to have their noses slightly in front for much of the game in Grade 2 against Belrose, things became touch-and-go when scores levelled at 40-all with only a few ends remaining.  Seaforth emerged the winners, 45-40. And in what has become an annual Grade 1 contest between Neutral Bay and Harbord, a tight battle for the “big board” went rightdown to the wire. Jenny Palmer’s team had posted a loss to Virginia Longfellow’s Harbord team 14-22, but Jenny Hepburn’s team was up in their battle with Chris Gordon’s team, with two ends to play. A valiant effort saw The Bay pick up a few extra shots, but the Harbord side eventually won the big board by 1 shot, 36-35. Well done to all players, and good luck to our Lindfield-Killara girls when they go to the State play-offs on the Central Coast from 15-18 August.
