FOURS & SENIOR FOURS 2016

16 February 2016

The semi finals of both the Open and Senior District Fours events were played on Tuesday 16 February at St Ives. In the Open Fours, with Lynne Thompson’s Neutral Bay team, and Bridget Nelson’s Gordon team proving too strong for the opposition, it set up a rematch of last year’s final for the afternoon game. Gordon were ahead throughout the match, however Neutral Bay drew level on the 19th end. The 20th end saw Gordon ahead once again, but only by one shot! The last end was amazing. After the leads and seconds had played their bowls, Neutral Bay held one shot … then two shots after the thirds had played. Nail biting stuff!! Bridget managed to cut the margin back to one with her last bowl, leaving only Lynne to play her final bowl. The crowd were wondering if Lynne would take the shot and force an extra end – but no – Lynne chose to play an on shot! She played it perfectly and took the jack back to two Neutral Bay bowls to win the Championship. A great final!

The Senior Fours final between Gill Barton’s Neutral Bay team and Eleanor Swain’s team from Belrose didn’t have the same dramatic finish as the Open final, but was a wonderful display of draw bowling. Both teams played so well, but the victorious Belrose team were relentless and, despite a strong comeback by Neutral Bay towards the end of the match, won convincingly.
